Artist's Comments

this was a work i did a year ago in Galway, in woods not to far from my home.

i had gone for a walk in the woods quite early in the morning because the weather was so good (and thats a rare treat in Galway!) as i was walking along i was suddenly inspired to make something and so i set about constructing this small woodland hut from hazel. the structure is woven and built around the base of a beautiful tree in the heart of the woods. afterwards i covered the construction in moss. the Hut took me a whole day to construct.

i have returned several times to the woods and was glad to see the wood hut still standing, the moss has taken and now grows abundantly on the hut. i intend on planting a fey creeping plants around it, in hope that in the summer the hut might be covered in flowers.

maybe i might make some more someday, like a little village in the woods...

I like to do the same thing...just create when I am inspired by nature. This is beautiful....brings out the little girl in me. I am so going to Ireland. My sister brought me back a Claddagh ring from Galway recently...where our roots lie. Magic.

Nearly all we convicts have root in Ireland :) ....yes...my grandfather came from Ireland and when my sister was there she placed my fathers photograph in an old church wall near a beautiful river. He never made it there before he died. We were raised on Irish ditties and Leprechaun milk.

yeah We like to spread ourselves around us Irish.a friend of mine travelled to south Africa for the Rugby World cup some years ago and when he was there he heard of a pub that was up on top of a mountain and was apparantly the highest pub in the world. and so, being Irish, he felt it was necessary to travel all the many miles up this mountain so that he could return home to ireland and say he had a pint in the highest pub in the world. it took him three days to get there, he drove, took a cable car and eventually hiked the last part. when he finally arrived at the bar, and went inside, he was greeted not only an Irish man but his cousin, who had been working there for the last couple of years!!

LMAO.....we often say you will find Aussies in the most remote places on earth, I know where we get it from now...ahhh synchronicity......the most intriguing and amusing of the kismet connections. Very, very cool.

Oh and btw I have seen film(sister's camera) of the river in Galway running ferociously into the sea....absolutely breathtaking. I love the idea of working with natural elements.
